Do men wear visors instead of hats these days?

I am always hot and headed for a vacation in the caribbean. I was considering getting a visor instead of a hat but I wanted opinions on whether men wear visors.

Hat provides more protection from the tropical sun. Visors tend to make a man look immature. You’d be best off with a ventilated crown and a full brim, unless you have naturally dark skin (which means you have less to worry about concerning sun exposure).

Among different kinds of headgear, hats are a relatively modern phenomenon. They are made from three different materials primarily – fur, straw and sometimes, wool. Black leather hats and cowboy hats are those which are wide-brimmed and have raised, high crowns Straw hats are the cheapest to buy; they are also the best hats to wear when the weather is very hot. They also, however, have greater wear and tear, becoming brittle more easily. If wants to wear one hat for a long time, then fur hats, made from beaver fur, or even rabbit fur, are the best buys. Although they are more expensive, their durability makes them affordable.

And, if you thought that only wearing a leather cowboy hat in any way would make you a cowboy, be warned! In fact, there are numerous rules that decide what a proper cowboy should and should not wear.

First, no cowboy ever owns, or wears, one hat for all occasions. Choice of hats varies according to function and fashion. Light colored hats, usually made of straw, are ideal for summer. For one, when there is no fear of rain, they look good. Also, straw allows air to pass, which is crucial in hot weather. Also, light colors mean little heat is absorbed. Following the same logic, only in reverse, dark-colored, felt hats, storing heat and keeping the head warm, are meant for use in winter.

Would you buy wool products such as hats sweaters, scarves & gloves?

I eat vegan and do not buy products in which animals were killed, such as leather. But this winter however I bought a fairly traded wool hat from Nepal. An animal was not killed so I could wear its hair.

Should I or any body else be concerned about using wool products? I feel like I supported people who would normally have little other means of making a living. What are your thoughts on this matter?

Oh boy. Do I feel you pain on this one.

I was given a set of fair trade alpaca gloves and a berette for Christmas. It was purchased from a place that supports women. The tags explained it all. It sounded very good.

Normally a vegan would not use anything that cause the exploitation of an animal. Wool from Australia is horrible. But I don’t imagine they butcher animals in Nepal to make smoother wool.

I’ve learned a lot of compassion for the struggle each vegan must face from reading Sarah Kramer’s cook books. She is so full of humor and love.

Basically each vegan must write their own code of conduct based on what their consciousness dictates. Don’t give in to the fanatics who spout freedom for all while trying to tell you how to live.
